The distance between the two coils is equal to the radius of coil. The radius of coil should be 2.5 times larger than the sample, and then all the samples can be in the uniform area of the coil. Helmholtz coil generates small and uniform magnetic field, and it is used for measuring the magnetic flux of magnetic steel.
